COURSE OVERVIEW: The AP Studio Art: 2-D Design course is dedicated to the artistic growth of students committed to an elevated focus in art, enabling them to build a college level portfolio.
Beyond the studio class each student is expected to continue artwork, and research outside of class. The time spent on these outside assignments correspond to the expectations of a college level class, and are an integral part of the AP Studio course.
The portfolio encompasses three major areas “Quality”- five actual works show casing a student’s optimum artwork,“Concentration” – twelve images characterizing a particular interest or visual challenge, “Breadth”-twelve images demonstrating a range of proficiency and inventiveness. These three areas represent a student’s mastery of techniques and media, problem solving and critical thinking skills, in addition to personal investigation
AP Studio Art 2-D Design student portfolios are submitted to the Collage Board for evaluation in place of a written exam. The requirements for the portfolio are a minimum of 24 pieces of art related to 2-D Design. Appropriate content may include: graphic Design, illustration, painting, printmaking, digital imaging, photography, mixed media, fabric design, fiber arts, and collage .
(Note: The body of work submitted for the portfolio can include art created prior to and outside of the AP Studio Art course.)
